Glove Box Stopper — Damped Interior Closure Bumper

A small moulded rubber stopper that takes the shock out of a closing lid and keeps it from rattling afterwards. It sets how the glove box sounds when it shuts, and it holds that feel for the life of the car — which is a compression-set problem, not a strength one. Compounded for low fogging and low odour, because it lives in the cabin.

Rubber Compound Options

RankCompoundCabin serviceWhy, for an interior closure stop
RecommendedEPDMGoodLow compression set, stable at cabin soak temperature, and it can be compounded for low fogging and odour
RecommendedSiliconeExcellentThe best compression set of the eight at temperature, and physiologically inert. Post-curing drives off residual volatiles, which is what makes it pass fogging. Higher cost, and it tears more easily
SuitableNeopreneAcceptableReasonable set and damping. Compound and cure system decide whether it meets the fogging and odour limits
SuitableNatural rubberAcceptableExcellent damping and resilience, which suits a closure stop. Ozone resistance is irrelevant inside the cabin
AvailableSBRCheckLow cost, and the fogging and odour result depends entirely on the compound
Not recommendedNBRCheckAn oil-seal compound with no advantage in a dry cabin, and the one most likely to carry an odour a panel will mark down
Not recommendedFKM · AEM—Expensive sealing compounds. Nothing they offer is useful in a closure stop

Key advantages

Why Specifiers Choose Margo

  • It has to still be quiet at year five

A stopper that flattens loses its interference and the lid starts to rattle. Compression set is the property this part is really bought on, and we test it in-house to ASTM D395 Method B rather than quoting it from a supplier datasheet.

  • It must not fog your windscreen

Interior rubber releases volatiles when a parked car heats up, and they condense as a haze on the glass. Fogging is a compounding decision, not a polymer one — send your limit to DIN 75201 or your own method and we compound to it.

  • And it must not smell

Cabin odour is assessed by a trained panel under heat and humidity, to VDA 270 or your OEM method. Both odour and fogging are normally part of the PPAP submission for an interior part, and we build them into the compound rather than discovering them at approval.

  • A thud, not a clack

Hardness and interference decide how the lid sounds when it shuts. Too hard and the dashboard sounds hollow; too soft and the lid sits proud. Tell us the feel you want and we will set both.

Industries served

Global Applications

  • Automotive interiors

glove box and console lids, armrests, cup-holder and ashtray covers, boot trim

  • Commercial vehicles

bus, truck and tractor cab lockers and lids, where the same emissions limits apply

  • Rail and public transport

enclosed cabins, luggage bins and cabinet doors in occupied spaces

  • Electrical and enclosures

equipment doors and lids that must close quietly

Manufacturing process

From Compound to Certification

  1. Material compounding

Polymer blending, additive integration and batch QC in our in-house lab. On an interior part the plasticiser and processing-aid package is selected for low fogging and low odour, not only for the physical properties.

  2. Mould Design & CNC

Mould design and CNC tool manufacture, in-house, held as a controlled record. Free height and the retaining barb are cut together, since one sets the shut feel and the other keeps the stopper in the panel.

  3. Compression Moulding

    Compression moulding.

  4. Post-Cure & Trimming

Post-cure and deflashing. Post-curing drives off residual volatiles, which is what keeps an interior part inside its fogging and odour limits.

  5. Quality inspection

Dimensional check, hardness, and compression set on batch samples. Fogging and odour are tested against the customer specification at approval.

  6. Export packaging

Industrial packing with documentation. Stoppers are bagged loose and uncompressed, since a part stored squashed arrives with the set already in it. ISPM-15 treated pallets where timber packaging is used.

Quality assurance

Certified to International Standards

Every product leaves our facility with a documentation package — material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance — giving traceability from raw material to finished part.

  • ISO 9001:2015 · Certificate 09111526A

Integral Certification Ltd · Valid to 21 February 2027

Scope: rubber moulded components — quality management, not a product approval

  • IATF 16949 — upgrade in progress, certification targeted by end 2026

  • ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 — targeted 2027

Interior emissions testing — fogging to DIN 75201 and odour to VDA 270, or your OEM equivalent — is carried out at an accredited laboratory and reported with the approval submission.

FAQ

Technical & Commercial Questions

Answers to the most common questions from engineering teams and procurement managers worldwide.

  • What is the minimum order quantity for this part?

We supply in bulk. The minimum run is 10,000 pieces per part number, per compound, or quoted against the part where geometry or tooling makes that unrealistic. Prototype and first-article lots sit outside the minimum.

  • Can you match a competitor specification or reverse-engineer an existing part?

Yes — and send an unused one if you can. A stopper taken out of a car has taken a set and measures shorter than it was moulded, so copying it reproduces a part that already rattles. We work back from the mounting hole and how far the lid closes onto it.

  • What file formats do you accept for drawings?

PDF, DWG, DXF and STEP. Mark the mounting hole, the free height and the closed position — and send your fogging and odour limits with them. Those limits change the compound, so they are worth stating before the geometry.

  • Do you provide material test reports with each shipment?

Yes. Material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance ship with every consignment. Hardness, tensile to ASTM D412 and compression set to ASTM D395 Method B are tested in-house. Fogging to DIN 75201 and odour to VDA 270 are reported at approval, against your specification.

  • What are your payment and delivery terms for international orders?

TT and LC accepted, discussed per order. Ex-works Nashik or FOB Nhava Sheva. Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin are issued with every consignment. Stoppers ship bagged loose and uncompressed.

Need this part quoted?

Send your drawing or an unused sample, with the mounting hole size and the closing feel you want. Include your fogging and odour limits — they decide the compound. We confirm hardness, interference and material, then quote against your annual quantity. We respond within 48 hours.
