Closed-cell foam rubber gaskets

Sponge & Foam Rubber

Foam Gaskets — Closed-Cell Sponge for Low-Closing-Force Seals

Closed-cell foam gaskets for enclosures, covers and light housings — they seal under light, uneven clamp, where a solid gasket would need bolt load the panel cannot give. Die-cut or moulded to ASTM D1056 type, class and grade, at our plant in Nashik.

Key advantages

Why Specifiers Choose Margo

  • Seals without clamp load

A sheet-metal cover or plastic housing cannot generate the bolt force a solid gasket needs. Closed-cell sponge seals at a fraction of it, and takes up the gap variation a pressed panel always has.

  • Closed cell, not open cell

Open-cell foam absorbs water and passes air — it cushions, it does not seal. Every gasket grade we supply is closed cell unless you specify otherwise.

  • Specified to ASTM D1056

Type for cell structure, class for oil resistance, grade for compression force deflection. Give us the code and we will match it; give us the gap and the force, and we will name it.

  • Sponge runs cooler than solid

A sponge grade does not reach its solid equivalent’s temperature — neoprene sponge is about +75 °C continuous, not +120 °C. We quote the sponge figure, which is the one your gasket will actually see.

Global Applications

  • Electrical & Enclosures

Control panels, junction boxes, outdoor cabinets, and the gasket is what carries the enclosure’s IP rating under IEC 60529

  • Automotive

Body and trim sealing, lamp housings, HVAC ducting joints — where light clamp is all that is available

  • Heavy Industry

Machine guards, access covers, acoustic and dust sealing on plant enclosures

  • Infrastructure

    Expansion-gap, window and cladding sealing

Manufacturing process

From Compound to Certification

  1. Material compounding

Polymer blending with the blowing agent that forms the cell structure, and batch QC in our in-house lab.

  2. Tool or die design

Cutting dies for flat gaskets, moulds for shaped ones, made in-house and held as a controlled record.

  3. Expansion cure

The compound is cured as sheet or bun and expands to the specified density. This is the step that makes it sponge, and it is the step the live page omits.

  4. Die-cutting or skiving

Bun stock skived to thickness, gaskets cut to profile, self-adhesive backing applied where specified.

  5. Quality inspection

Density and compression force deflection checked against the D1056 grade, plus dimensional check and batch sampling.

  6. Export packaging

Industrial packing with documentation. Sponge is packed uncompressed; stacking under load takes a set that does not recover. ISPM-15 treated pallets where timber is used.

Quality assurance

Certified to International Standards

Every product leaves our facility with a documentation package — material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance — giving traceability from raw material to finished part.

FAQ

Technical & Commercial Questions

Answers to the most common questions from engineering teams and procurement managers worldwide.

  • What is the minimum order quantity for this part?

We supply in bulk. The minimum run is 10,000 pieces per part number, per compound, or quoted against the part where geometry or tooling makes that unrealistic. Prototype and first-article lots sit outside the minimum.

  • Can you match a competitor specification or reverse-engineer an existing part?

Yes. Send the sample or the ASTM D1056 code. Measure a sponge sample uncompressed and off the panel — a gasket that has been clamped for a year measures thinner than it was cut, and matching the compressed thickness gives you a gasket that will not seal.

  • What file formats do you accept for drawings?

PDF, DWG and DXF. For a die-cut gasket a flat DXF outline is ideal. Mark the free thickness, the compressed thickness you need, and whether the part needs self-adhesive backing. A 3D model is not required.

  • Do you provide material test reports with each shipment?

Yes. Material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance ship with every consignment. For sponge grades we report density and compression force deflection against the ASTM D1056 designation — not Shore A hardness, which is not a sponge measurement.

  • What are your payment and delivery terms for international orders?

TT and LC accepted, discussed per order. Ex-works Nashik or FOB Nhava Sheva. Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin are issued with every consignment. Sponge is shipped uncompressed, which affects volumetric freight.

Need this part quoted?

Send your drawing, a sample, or just the gap and the closing force you have. We confirm the grade, density and thickness, then quote against your annual quantity. We respond within 48 hours.
