Rubber Compound Options
Select the compound best suited to your operating environment and application requirements.
Compound
EPDM
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer
Temperature range
−40 to +140 °C
For this part
The default. Water, weather, ozone and UV — a body or bulkhead pass-through spends its life exposed to all four
Compound
Neoprene
Polychloroprene (CR)
Temperature range
−40 to +120 °C
For this part
Where the pass-through sees oil mist or fuel vapour as well as weather — the engine-bay side of a bulkhead
Compound
NBR
Nitrile Butadiene Rubber
Temperature range
−30 to +120 °C
For this part
Direct liquid oil contact. Poor ozone resistance — do not specify it for an exposed exterior grommet
Compound
Silicone
Vinyl Methyl Silicone (VMQ)
Temperature range
−60 to +220 °C
For this part
Pass-throughs near a heat source. Tears more easily than EPDM, which matters on a part fitted by hand
Compound
SBR
Styrene Butadiene Rubber
Temperature range
−30 to +100 °C
For this part
Low-cost interior pass-throughs, no weather exposure
Compound
Natural Rubber
Polyisoprene (NR)
Temperature range
−20 to +90 °C
For this part
Best tear strength of the eight — worth considering where fitting damage is the problem, but it perishes outdoors
Compound
AEM
Ethylene Acrylic Elastomer (Vamac)
Temperature range
−40 to +175 °C continuous to +160 °C
For this part
Hot oil-mist service. Cost is rarely justified on a grommet
Compound
FKM
Fluoroelastomer (Viton)
Temperature range
−20 to +250 °C continuous to +200 °C
For this part
Aggressive chemical or very high temperature. 2–3× the cost of the alternatives

FITTED HARDNESS
50–60 Shore A
soft enough to seat, firm enough to grip
Key advantages
Why Specifiers Choose Margo
It has to fit before it can seal
A grommet is seated by hand over a cut panel edge. We specify hardness and tear strength for that moment, not just for service life — a part the operator has to force is a part that gets damaged on the line.
The seal is the interference
Each hole is moulded undersize against its wire. Send the wire diameters and we will set the interference — matching hole to wire exactly gives a grommet that passes inspection and leaks in service.
Sized to your panel, not to a catalogue
Panel gauge sets the retaining groove; hole pitch is fixed by your harness. Both are moulded in, so the part seats in one push and stays put.
Protecting the cable is half the job
A chafed harness is a short circuit, so the bore is moulded with a radius rather than cut, and the compound is chosen to stay flexible cold.
Industries served
Global Applications
Automotive
Bulkhead and floor-pan harness pass-throughs, door-to-body cable transitions, lamp and switch wiring
Electrical & Enclosures
Control panels, junction boxes and outdoor cabinets, where the grommet is what carries the enclosure’s IP rating under IEC 60529
Heavy Industry
Harness entries on machine enclosures and control cabinets, where dust and washdown are the threats
Infrastructure
Cable entries on roadside cabinets, pump housings and site equipment
Manufacturing process
From Compound to Certification
Material compounding
Polymer blending, additive integration and batch QC in our in-house lab. Tear strength is set here — the grommet is stretched over a cut panel edge by hand, and that moment decides line scrap.
Mould Design & CNC
Mould design and CNC tool manufacture, in-house, held as a controlled record. The retaining groove and the three cores are cut to your panel gauge and hole pitch.
Compression Moulding
Hydraulic press cycles at controlled temperature and pressure profiles per product spec.
Post-cure and deflashing
Flash removed from the three bores and the groove. Flash left in a bore is a leak path and a chafe point.
Quality inspection
Hole diameters, pitch and groove dimension checked against the drawing, plus hardness testing and batch sampling.
Export packaging
Industrial packing with documentation. ISPM-15 treated pallets where timber packaging is used. Grommets are bagged loose so the sealing lips are not deformed in transit.
Quality assurance
Certified to International Standards
Every product leaves our facility with a documentation package — material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance — giving traceability from raw material to finished part.

Technical & Commercial Questions
Answers to the most common questions from engineering teams and procurement managers worldwide.
What is the minimum order quantity for this part?
We supply in bulk. The minimum run is 10,000 pieces per part number, per compound, or quoted against the part where geometry or tooling makes that unrealistic. Prototype and first-article lots sit outside the minimum.
Can you match a competitor specification or reverse-engineer an existing part?
Yes. Send the sample and a piece of the panel it fits. The groove has to match the panel gauge, and a used grommet has relaxed — we measure the panel, not the worn part, and set the hole interference from your wire sizes.
What file formats do you accept for drawings?
PDF, DWG, DXF and STEP. Mark the panel gauge, the panel hole diameter, the three wire diameters and the hole pitch — those four, plus the compound, are enough for us to quote and tool.
Do you provide material test reports with each shipment?
Yes. Material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance ship with every consignment. Hardness, tensile to ASTM D412, compression set to ASTM D395 Method B and tear strength to ASTM D624 are tested in-house.
What are your payment and delivery terms for international orders?
TT and LC accepted, discussed per order. Ex-works Nashik or FOB Nhava Sheva. Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin are issued with every consignment.
