Rubber Compound Options
Select the compound best suited to your operating environment and application requirements.
Compound
EPDM
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer
Temperature range
−40 to +140 °C
For this part
Water, weather, ozone and UV — and it holds its grip cold, which is when a grommet is most likely to let go
Compound
Neoprene
Polychloroprene (CR)
Temperature range
−40 to +120 °C
For this part
Engine-bay panels — oil mist and weather together
Compound
NBR
Nitrile Butadiene Rubber
Temperature range
−30 to +120 °C
For this part
Direct liquid oil. Poor ozone resistance — not for an exposed exterior panel
Compound
Silicone
Vinyl Methyl Silicone (VMQ)
Temperature range
−60 to +220 °C
For this part
Near a heat source. Tears more easily, which matters on a part pushed home by hand
Compound
SBR
Styrene Butadiene Rubber
Temperature range
−30 to +100 °C
For this part
Low-cost interior panels, no weather exposure
Compound
Natural Rubber
Polyisoprene (NR)
Temperature range
−20 to +90 °C
For this part
Best tear strength of the eight — a real argument where fitting damage is the problem, but it perishes outdoors
Compound
AEM
Ethylene Acrylic Elastomer (Vamac)
Temperature range
−40 to +175 °C continuous to +160 °C
For this part
Hot oil-mist service. Cost rarely justified on a grommet
Compound
FKM
Fluoroelastomer (Viton)
Temperature range
−20 to +250 °C continuous to +200 °C
For this part
Aggressive chemical or very high temperature. 2–3× the cost

Key advantages
Why Specifiers Choose Margo
Nothing holds it but the groove
No bolt, no clip, no adhesive. We size the groove to your panel gauge and set the push-out force you specify — light enough to seat by hand, firm enough that it never works loose.
Measured after paint, not before
A groove cut to bare-metal gauge is too tight once the panel is coated. Tell us the finished panel thickness and we mould the clearance in.
Open or closed, same tool family
Cable bore or solid blanking plug, moulded from the same groove geometry. One panel hole, two parts — useful when a variant deletes an option and the hole stays.
It has to grip on a cold morning
Rubber stiffens as it cools, and a grommet held only by grip is most likely to let go at −20 °C. EPDM is our default here for that reason, not just for weather.
Industries served
Global Applications
Automotive
Body and floor-pan holes, drain and drift holes, single-cable entries, and blanking plugs where a variant deletes an option
Electrical & Enclosures
Single-cable entries and unused knockouts on control panels and outdoor cabinets, where the grommet contributes to the enclosure’s IP rating under IEC 60529
Heavy Industry
Access and cable holes on machine guarding and control cabinets — dust and washdown
Infrastructure
Cable entries and blanking on roadside cabinets and site equipment
Manufacturing process
From Compound to Certification
Material compounding
Polymer blending, additive integration and batch QC in our in-house lab. Hardness is set here, and on a grommet held only by its own groove it is what determines the push-out force.
Mould Design & CNC
Mould design and CNC tool manufacture, in-house, held as a controlled record. The groove is cut to your finished panel gauge, coating included.
Compression Moulding
Hydraulic press cycles at controlled temperature and pressure profiles per product spec.
Post-cure and deflashing
Flash removed from the bore and the groove. Flash in the groove is the difference between seated and nearly seated.
Quality inspection
Groove dimension, bore diameter and push-out force checked against the drawing, plus hardness and batch sampling.
Export packaging
Industrial packing with documentation. ISPM-15 treated pallets where timber packaging is used. Grommets are bagged loose so the retaining groove is not deformed in transit.
Quality assurance
Certified to International Standards
Every product leaves our facility with a documentation package — material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance — giving traceability from raw material to finished part.

Technical & Commercial Questions
Answers to the most common questions from engineering teams and procurement managers worldwide.
What is the minimum order quantity for this part?
We supply in bulk. The minimum run is 10,000 pieces per part number, per compound, or quoted against the part where geometry or tooling makes that unrealistic. Prototype and first-article lots sit outside the minimum.
Can you match a competitor specification or reverse-engineer an existing part?
Yes — and send a piece of the panel with the sample. A grommet that has been in service has relaxed and measures loose; the panel does not change. We take the groove from the panel gauge and the bore from your cable size.
What file formats do you accept for drawings?
PDF, DWG, DXF and STEP. Mark the finished panel thickness, the panel hole diameter, the cable size and the push-out force you need — those four, plus the compound, are enough for us to quote and tool.
Do you provide material test reports with each shipment?
Yes. Material test reports, dimensional inspection sheets and a certificate of conformance ship with every consignment. Hardness, tensile to ASTM D412, compression set to ASTM D395 Method B and tear strength to ASTM D624 are tested in-house, and push-out force is verified on first article.
What are your payment and delivery terms for international orders?
TT and LC accepted, discussed per order. Ex-works Nashik or FOB Nhava Sheva. Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin are issued with every consignment.
